Attorneys who have recently been issued with their first Fidelity Fund certificate and who need to complete their mandatory practice management obligations before the end of 2012 should note that the closing date to register for the first intake of training for the Legal Education and Development (LEAD) practice management course is Friday, 9 December 2011. LEAD has been accredited by the provincial law societies to provide the training.
The closing date for the second practice management training intake in 2012 is 15 June 2012.
Sections 8 to 10 of the Judicial Matters Second Amendment Act 55 of 2003 made practice management training mandatory for those attorneys who were issued with their first Fidelity Fund certificates after 14 August 2009.
Apply to your provincial law society for exemption and extension
Those attorneys who believe that they have appropriate prior experience in practice management can apply for exemption to the provincial law society in their jurisdiction.
Applications for extension should also be forwarded to the provincial law societies and not to the Law Society of South Africa.
