Deeds Office closure

The Pretoria Deeds Office is set to close for three weeks during December while it moves offices and this could cause long delays in processing property transfers. This closure is expected to mean delayed income for estate agents, developers and conveyancing attorneys and delayed draw-downs from development bonds for those who miss the cut-off date prior to closure. Such delays will be exacerbated further by the existing backlog - especially in data-capturing and delivery of titles, and will be carried forward into 2006.

Officials who will be remaining on duty believe that they will catch up rather than fall behind, due to the absence of new lodgements and registrations.

Mark McIntosh 02/09/2005:

The official version is that the Deeds office will not close at all at this stage although they have applied to the Director General land Affairs to close for one day namely 19th December 2005. Permission to close for that one day has not yet been granted.
