Mayor knew

The mayor of Cape Town, Nomaindia Mfeketo, has admitted she knew of the City of Cape Town's selling of plots in the sought-after new Big Bay development to prominent figures close to the ANC without going through the tender process She did not know, however, that many would sell them straight away for large profits, despite the fact that the list of beneficiaries reads like a "who's who" of the new black elite, and that some of the companies have not been involved in property development.

The DA blasted the sale of the land and the process, saying that all the intended buyers were closely linked to the ANC and that the sale was nepotist and not properly focused on black economic empowerment. The people of Cape Town have lost some R15 - R20 million with these sales.
