Not set in stone

Conveyancing has changed a lot in Scotland in the last few years. Considerable legislative activity has seen the abolition of the feudal system; the reform of the law of real burdens; and the codification and reform of the law of the tenement. This year will also see the introduction in Scotland of Automated Registration of Title to Land (ARTL), one of the world's most advanced systems of completely paper-free electronic registration of title and for which more than 400 legal firms have registered to use. The Property Sale Questionnaire (PSQ), currently on trial, allows for the collection of essential, pre-sale information on a property, which is then presented in an easy-to-follow format for prospective purchasers, surveyors and lawyers.
