Opinions on Fica

Maboku Mangena takes umbrage in Fica: attorneys dare not fail at those who see the Financial Intelligence Centre Act 32 of 2001 as being an invasion of a citizens right to privacy. In defending it, he sees it as progressive crime-fighting legislation which is aimed at rooting out corruption among the elite members of society and accordingly should be supported in all respects. Especially by attorneys in whom the government has confidence.

Mashudu Kutama, voices similar opinions in Fica: important in fight against crime, in which he says it is important to dispel the notion that South Africa is becoming a haven for criminals, particularly in regard to economic crimes such as money laundering.
