Partly open book

In 2009 (July) DR 14 it was reported that the Council of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces (LSNP) had reserved its decision with regard to the new, partly open-book format of the conveyancing examination. This was after the Council of the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) had approved the change from 2010 to partly open-book format at its meeting at the end of May. At its subsequent council meeting at the end of June, the Council of the LSNP accepted the decision already taken by the LSSA Council. The LSNP Council went on to recommend that the same arrangement should be investigated in respect of paper 1 of the attorneys admission examination (i.e. court procedures).

The Director of the LSSA's Legal Education and Development department (LEAD), Nic Swart, has indicated that the format of the admission examination paper would be discussed by the LSSA's Examinations Committee.
