Swindlers

Be aware of fraudsters promising land and homes to would-be homeowners, taking deposits and then disappearing with this money. So says Jo Pelser, MD of residential developer Sable Homes. Their gall knows no bounds as buyers find it more difficult to afford their first homes and gain entry to the market.

The modus operandi of these swindlers can be quite audacious. They will market a new "development" or "housing project", sometimes complete with site layouts, house plans and pictures of what the finished project will look like; stands and homes will be offered at highly attractive "launch" prices; you pay your deposit; the swindler vanishes.
