e-Conveyancing

ASP first in conveyancing

Transact Direct is the result of a joint venture between Scottish law firm PSM (Peddie Smith Malaco) and case management specialists Visualfiles. The system, which has been undergoing trials since June 2003, is currently handling over 1500 property transactions each month.

More than a tracking system, Transact Direct software functions as a secure paperless virtual environment which automates and conducts a transaction from start to finish.

How does it work?
Each user has a unique user ID and password that takes them to their own main system menu where they can elect to have all pages branded with their own logo and corporate identity. This menu allows access to create cases, access caseloads, search and generate reports.

A profile is generated based on a user ID; this determines how much confidential and restricted information a user has access to in the relevant case file as well as what rights he or she have regarding the transfer. The case file can be accessed by other parties immediately, allowing for real time negotiation of contracts and drafts without the need for the wasteful production of letters. Case tracking allows for detailed reports to be generated, while detailed searches can also be done.

Because the software is delivered as an ASP (Active Server Page) service, there is very little IT investment apart from the Internet connection. Moreover, unlike most other conveyancing software, this allows conveyancers to be charged on a fixed fee per transaction basis for each conveyancing matter.
