Deeds office strike

In a move which could exacerbate the current backlog in property transfer registrations, some 1000 deeds examiners intend going on strike on 7 November over a performance bonus dispute which has been simmering for the last four years. The bonuses have not been raised since 2002, nor paid in 2004, then were resumed subject to a final agreement which was not reached.

The consequences of the strike could have serious implications for some property developers who could face liquidation and bankruptcy.
