Tips and tricks for using GhostConvey

Sars and Section 35A
Non-resident compliance:
In terms of the provisions of Section 35A of the Income Tax Act, 1962 a certain portion of any purchase price in excess of R2 000 000.00 has to be withheld by the purchaser, if the Seller is a non-resident.

Two new fields added to GhostConvey as follows:
· tab - with label 'Seller non-resident iro Sec 35A Income Tax Act?'
· tab - with label 'Withholding amount iro Sec35A'

Step 1:
If the purchase price is greater than R2 000 000.00 an 'Attorney Checklist' will be produced on the 'Documents for Signature' print task. This document is to assist is ascertaining whether the Seller is a resident or non-resident, of South Africa.

Step 2:
If, in addition to the purchase price being in excess of R2 000 000.00 the Seller is a non-resident then -
  1. the new field on the tab (per Transferor) will be activated and should be ticked (the existing similar field on the tab will be auto-ticked).
  2. the new field on the tab re the withholding amount must also be completed.

If 1. and 2. above are completed, the following documents/changes will become available:
SARS Declarations print task
· NR 02 - (only available in English)
· NR 02 (Notes)
· NR 03 - (only available in English)
· IRP6(3)

Initial Letters print list
· Letter to Purchaser confirming resident status of Seller

Documents for signature print task:
· 'Transferor - Personal Affidavit' - will have a clause confirming non-residency status.
· 'Instruction to Register Transfer' - acknowledges the amount to be withheld.

Backups
We really can't stress enough the importance of regular backups. If your PC crashed we would be able to reinstall the program, but all your actual matters would be lost. Please check whether regular backups (at LEAST once a week) are being done, and whether the GhostConvey database is included in the backup. If GhostConvey is installed on your PC, backups must be done somewhere other than your hard drive, for obvious reasons.

Please backup the "GhostConvey.mdb" file which can be found in \GWData\Ghostcon\

WinDeed Spider searches
Due to the positive response, WinDeed is extending the Spider Search promotion until the 29th February. That means new and existing users still have a chance to do 3 free searches, worth R39 each.

Valentine's day history
One legend tells that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl - who may have been his jailor's daughter. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today.
