Estate agent survey

According to the results of a national industry survey, more than two thirds (69 percent) of the estate agents currently registered with the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) have more than three years' experience in the industry, and 37 percent of them have been in the industry for more than 10 years.

The national survey - the first of its kind to be conducted in SA - was co-ordinated by Property24.com with the EAAB and the Institute of Estate Agents (IEASA), and mailed in June this year to some 48 000 agents then registered with the EAAB.

It probed a wide range of characteristics of agents and agencies, including demographics, earnings and technology usage as well as corporate structures and, although participation was entirely voluntary, it drew a strong response.

Some 89 percent of agencies now employ at least one full-time administrator, and at least 65 percent now refer buyers seeking home finance to an originator, bank consultant or dedicated in-house loan consultant.
