The Land Registry is to test a secure web portal - Chain Matrix - which will allow home buyers, sellers and their legal representatives to view all transactions in their purchasing chain. The consultancy Hedra and IBM are involved in the development of the application.
Julie Barry, e-conveyancing stakeholder relationship manager at the Land Registry, said that "The matrix will show the number of properties involved, their position in the chain and their progress through the different stages of the buying process." It is hoped that the system, which will be tested this year, will eventually integrate into legal firms' case management systems. Although the ultimate automation is several years down the line it is becoming more of a reality. A secure platform will also have to be implemented before the service is publicly launched.
