R.I.P. HIPs

The requirement for homeowners to provide Home Information Packs when selling their homes is to be suspended immediately, pending primary legislation for a permanent abolition according to an announcement by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles and Housing Minister Grant Shapps. Their suspension means that home sellers will be able to put their homes on the market with less cost (often hundreds of pounds) and hassle. It is also seen as an attempt to revive what is a fragile housing market. Energy Performance Certificates will remain however.

The news has been greeted enthusiastically by industry players, who feel that they did not address significant problems in the home buying process.
