e-Conveyancing

Secret ECV

This despite the promise of the roll out of a national system by 2010 and the fact that it has been a waste of money because it has been developed without the involvement of major banks, which are central players in most conveyancing transactions. The banks want a national electronic conveyancing system and are opposed to separate state-based systems. Solicitors are concerned about liability problems as well and only one of the transactions performed on it involved the settlement of a property sale. It is a white elephant which according to some should be put out of its misery.

The only rationale for its continued development could be the hope that it could form a prototype for a national e-conveyancing system. Otherwise AU$ 40 million and 90 000 lines of source code will amount to nothing.
