The Beginning...

In the articles that follow over the months ahead under the editorial leadership of John de Villiers we wish to create a forum for debating the future of electronic conveyancing, or e-conveyancing in South Africa. The problems raised by e-conveyancing are myriad and complex. Essentially, we need to reconcile a paper-based system (which is accurate and provides security of title), with the growing demands of our age.

In short, we require an efficient, fast and secure electronic system of land registration. Part of the attraction in finding a solution is that it will marry the requirements of the law with the dynamism of evolving technologies. Many people have interests in the outcome, and will have a great deal to contribute, making this process fascinating and absorbing at all times.
