"Congratulations to Routlege Modise (Pretoria) on their "huge batch"! They pipped us by about 100 deeds, in a scheme ("Four Seasons") which we registered in Cape Town earlier this year. I don't believe that ours was the largest scheme in the Cape Town Deeds Office either", writes Harry Friedland.
So with that in mind, the GhostDigest would like to know what the biggest lodgement of deeds was. Send your replies to editor@ghostdigest.co.za.
A reply from Gustav Meyer of Meyer Attorneys:
I believe I can clear up the seeming mystery of the biggest batch ever registered in the Deeds Office.
My firm, Meyer Attorneys, lodged a batch of 2177 deeds on 14/12/06 and registered it on 2 February 2007. The registration was that of the first five phases of the sectional title scheme Wonderpark Estate in Pretoria North. The estate comprises of some 1480 units in total, developed by M&T Development (Pty) Ltd. The first 583 units were registered on the above date.
I do believe, following consultation with the Registrar of Deeds, Mr. Mesefo at that stage, that it is the biggest batch of deeds ever registered in the Deeds Office, Pretoria, the biggest registrary in the country.
Speaking from experience, lodging such a batch is one thing but registering quite another, so good luck to Messrs. Routledge Modise at this stage, especially in light of the current credit outlook of the banks!

Dear Editor
In reply to your request regarding lodgement of big batches we would like to confirm that we lodged and registered a sectional title scheme in the Cape Town Deeds Office which consisted of a batch of 1 270.
We are naturally interested to know where this one ranks.
