What benefits?

Although the author feels that technology has brought massive improvements to the law, there are limits to what it can achieve. With respect to conveyancing, the promise of IT outweighs reality because the emotional cost and the degree to which the human element remains essential in realising the benefits of IT have not been appreciated.

For example, e-conveyancing only seems to speed up post-completion registration, and this is something the average homeowner is unlikely to notice, since most of the stresses in moving house are likely to remain untouched by e-conveyancing. Although not totally anti e-conveyancing, this article highlights the need to embrace the benefits of IT but with the caveat that one is not seduced by an exaggerated belief in the capacity of IT to improve conveyancing.
