About the seminar
The training aims to cover:

  • latest developments on the Consumer Protection front, including discussing any judgments by the National Consumer Tribunal as at the date of the seminar;
  • the complexities of the application provisions of the Consumer Protection Act and important implications for clients;
  • discussing problems conveyancers, litigators, commercial drafters and generalist attorneys regularly face in interpreting and implementing the Consumer Protection Act, read with the regulations and notices, and suggesting some practical solutions;
  • some hints on plain language drafting;
  • generous question time to deal with practitioners’ queries on the Consumer Protection Act.

About the seminar
The seminar will be presented in the form of a workshop, with the main focus on practice rather than theory. Both residential and commercial evictions will be covered, with residential evictions being discussed in terms of the Prevention of Illegal Evictions from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act 19 of 1998 (known as the PIE Act).

The programme will include:

  • Commercial Evictions: High Court and Magistrate’s Court;
  • Residential evictions: ESTA; PIE; High Court and    Magistrate’s Court; action and motion procedure;
  • Rental claims; and
  • The Rental Housing Tribunal
